[the camera is pointed down, down, down. There is a very large hole in the ground and the camera seems to be right over it as if the reckless idiot curious observer is right on the edge]
That is a very big hole. Some sort of mine. You ever notice that word? Mine. Usually what's in it doesn't belong to anyone but everyone would like it to belong to them. Wonder what's in it.
Hallo, by the way, I'm the Doctor. [the camera shifts dizzyingly to show the beaming face of the Time Lord]
Not the worst kidnapping I've ever been to but I'd like a word with the Agrii if anyone knows how, short of leaving messages. Not sure what the vanquish is either, not sure I like it, leaves a bad taste in the mouth a name like that. I don't want to be either. [and ironically he's a bit of both]
Most importantly,
No second most importantly,
Anyone know a way to get down?
First most importantly, what is one thing you should never do here? The worst thing to attempt. The big do not. Lay it on me.

Sure why not. I'll be hole adjacent anyway.
[and when the other arrives he might not be immediately visible but the Doctor does love an explore and will pop out when he hears someone coming]
Alrighty. I'll hop on over.
[Which he almost literally does. Not quite hop, but he jumps. His jumps cover a fair distance, and as he's coming from the vicinity of the city square it doesn't take him long at all to get to the all too familiar hole in the ground. His boots crunch on the gravel, his tattered cloak fluttering after him. He's got a gun in his holster but if anyone tries to throw Ace down a flaming hole there will be words.]
Nice. Good landing that, but can be hard on the knees. Good to meet you. [he sees that gun but if it's not being drawn it won't be chucked down a mineshaft]
no subject
[He's broken his legs before making crazier jumps. Even midair jumps couldn't save you from gravity if you found yourself up too high.]
Nice meeting you too, Doc. Name's Cayde. Were you trying to freehand it?
[There's a slight look of amusement at that, seeing as where he's found the Doctor at.]
no subject
[the full thing, if you don't mind.]
Cayde.
And just doing some exploratory poking about, seeing what I can do. Ledge is a bit narrow here so I'm not sure if I want to continue. [though it was said in a tone as if that wasn't entirely off the table.
He rests his elbow on the ground and his chin in the palm of his hand]
You were saying?
no subject
[If you couldn't just jump from one foothold to another, of course.]
I was- Right! [He snappoints.]
So. Third party involvement. Actually probably pulling all the strings. Wouldn't be surprised if they were still able to see and hear what was going on off the network but they're pesky like that.
It's true that the Agrii are all pushed out of their homeworld because of these storms. What they don't seem aware of or have been purposely made oblivious to is that there're these guys called the Atroma who make it a hobby of toying with people just to see how things go, for entertainment purposes. Some of our current residents have previous experience with them.
no subject
Hmm. Don't like that either. Really they're both toying with people. [though he's a little more annoyed at the Atroma.]
Any way we can make trouble for them?
no subject
I like your thinking. Unfortunately I think the only thing that'd make trouble would be to not do anything because that'd be boring. In which case they'd probably throw something at us to force a reaction- they do that now and then anyway, really. And we can't just pack up and go somewhere because conveniently, the ships won't work unless we're required to go to another planet.
no subject
Really, though? There's nothing else? Oh no don't tell me we're lab rats. I hate being a lab rat. [even worse than he hates staying still] How come the ships won't work? Maybe I can take a look at them.
no subject
I have no idea what's up with the ships. I think they're all controlled by the main ship the Agrii are currently on. You're welcome to have a look though- ships are all in the hangar. Of course...the problem is nothing makes sense unless you download the job knowledge from those datapoint things. You been acquainted with those yet?
no subject
[that's also something to look into. In the meantime...]
I don't need to understand something to make it fly. [he wants to gut one and see what happens] Which way is the hanger?
no subject
[Utterly ridiculous, in his opinion.]
Hangar's that-a-way, my good man. [He points off towards the closest corner of the city, not too long a ways from the hole they're by.]
no subject
Well come on. [hands in his pockets he starts away from the hole]
They're like user manuals yeah? Never got on with them. I like to figure it out as I go. [it doesn't always work but who has the time to follow directions]
I mean it can't be that alien, can it?
no subject
Can you blame me for trying?! The Agrii were sending us out on a rescue mission and they finally gave us access to weapons!
[He starts along after, not long in matching pace with the Doctor.]
There's like...a minimal you can probably guess at or stumble your way around? But I think it's a little more than just the bare instructions. The understanding. The application. Also you can't hold more than one in your head at once because they get replaced each time you touch one of them.
no subject
[and he's likely going to be proud of that fact, but the Doctor doesn't hold it against him...yet]
What you mean? Your mind just gets rewritten? Don't like the sound of that. Has anyone ever tried? Can you load it up to something else?
no subject
[To the subject of datapoints, he shrugs.]
Sounds like? But that's exactly why I haven't gone near the things. Got enough memory issues without something stuffing new information in there and then pulling it out again.
[He scowls a little at the thought.]
Jon's the guy you'd ask about that. He's probably got his own notes on it I know he's switched between them a few times. Don't think they respond to anything outside of um, people.
no subject
[it seems endless sometimes which is why he likes to pepper in a bit of fun. Here he might have to make it where he finds it]
I might try one just to see but I don't like it either. I wonder what else it pulls. I wonder why it's here. Did the Agrii leave these here or is it something or someone else? [he shakes his head]
Jon. Right. Nice name Jon. Simple.
But if you could get something that could translate and store psychic energy, that might be useful.
no subject
[He offers a roguish grin. Endless, yes, especially for someone who's virtually immortal, which is why Cayde's found his own ways to make sure things don't get boring.]
Jon pretty much lives in the library so he won't be too hard to find. Also, that's a good question though. I think there used to be other general datapoints but they were all broken. So it's possible they were originally part of the Agrii culture and use. Someone just decided no one needed to know whatever else these other things might've held. Convenient. [Only not.]
Ah-hah! Now that sounds like an Ikora thing. She'd probably love to puzzle something like that out with you.
no subject
You seem to know a bit of everyone. You're either very friendly or have been here a while. [he hopes it's not the latter] How long has this been going on by the way, do you know? How many people have come and gone?
no subject
[He folds his arms as he considers the questions.]
The how long is a really weird thing. I mean, really. From what I've heard about that datapoint that gave the rundown on the situation here? Supposedly it's been some hundred years or something? But things don't exactly look like they've been sitting here rotting for that long. I should know, even back on Earth where I'm from, places been sitting in ruins for centuries. Lotta wear and tear, too much rust, too broke to be fixed up again.
There is also this whole mess with time that makes things even more difficult to really pin down. The tech that brought us doesn't just span distance but time itself, alternate realities. There are like, several different Earths so far as I'm aware, just from talking to some of the people here.
As far as people go, I'd say there's maybe forty people, give or take. We don't really do roll calls and only time we figure someone's gone is if someone close to 'em have noticed and they don't appear on the contact list any more. Been maybe a handful of people that have disappeared in the time I've been here, and I think that's been at least a year.
[He pauses to point ahead at the large structure not too far ahead.]
Almost there.
no subject
That would explain why everything feels off.
Doesn't seem like a lot got done in a year, of course it's a big job, a massive job-- for what? Fifty people and associated beings? Makes you wonder what they're really planning or if they're just that bad at this. Not that I'm complaining exactly. I definitely don't want them to be better at it.
no subject
Dunno about that. Could just be the Agrii don't know how to translate years correctly, or maybe they've also been time-warped somewhere. Considering that our last trip off-planet had us traveling to a world nine hundred years in the past from what those of us who were actually familiar with the place knew, I don't know where to even start with all that.
[He tosses his hands.]
Anyway! Not that I think that'll help us any more than anything else at this point.
I don't think it was even half that in terms of population a year ago. They'd managed to get water and power running even before that time. When they first pulled me in it wasn't even to this planet! They sent everyone on a vacation, so coming from that to this place was a big let down.
The Agrii did want to try sending us home though, at one point.
no subject
It takes a lot of energy to do something like that. Sending people back 900 years in the past? To a planet that's not even this one? Not that hard if you know what you're doing. I've done that loads of times just on accident.
[what it meant, he didn't know, but he was starting to get ideas]
What happened?
no subject
[small>He bounds ahead towards the entryway of the hangar.]
What happened- well, we were all aboard their mother ship and Gary was so thankful that we all came to help save them that she made the offer. 'cept we all go to the room where whatever supposedly powered the thingy was and it's apparently gone. No idea what it looked like- I wasn't with that team when we all split off to cover the ship before then.
That's when this voice speaks up over all the comms and clues us into the possibility that these Atroma guys aren't completely gone after all. They set us all up.
no subject
[As for the rest, well he takes it in but he's missing too much context to really get an idea. He supposes he will have a clearer picture when something else happens, when he meets these Agrii or Atroma, but for right now he folds it in the back of his mind
He is a bit of a better mood when they stepped into the hanger. A bit. The ships weren't the height of technology, but they were there. Where there were ships, there was life]
Beautiful. Look at this place. I bet I could get underneath one and really make it go. Which one is which?
