I am requesting a virtual town hall. And requesting in the sense that I have been talked down from magicking every single one of you into a room to talk about this, so I would be grateful if you would all please participate.

I realize we’ve never officially sat down and hashed this shit out, but I thought it went without saying that we follow the basic rules of right and wrong in this place. I didn’t expect to wake up to find we turned into Lord of the Flies over night while I was gone.

So can we have a talk about what is and isn’t appropriate here? Because I punch bad guys for a living, but even I know that ganging up on someone, detaining them, and making threats when they are not currently a danger, ISN’T okay. I didn’t think we needed it written down as law. I don’t care if this guy IS the murderer, he’s still owed the same basic rights as anyone else here. And I’m pretty sure coercion isn’t a tactic anyone should feel proud about using on someone, especially with so little proof. Not to mention I’ve attacked people here more than once. No one’s questioned me. We know for a fact this place can have us acting against our natures, and none of you have stopped to wonder if this might be the same?

If the rest of you disagree then I guess you aren’t the people I thought you were. I’m disappointed in everyone who took part and everyone who watched and didn’t intervene.

I watched the video. And this isn't about him. He might be 1000% guilty, that doesn't make what happened okay. And if we act like it is- then it's a slippery slope of the ends justifying the means.

You cornered some kid, ganged up on him, and wouldn't let him go. You really feel good about that? With what seems to have been almost no evidence on top of that.

I don't know if I'm the right person to weigh in. I'm not an investigator or anything like that. I'm just a pilot.

I mean weigh in on what happened. Weigh in on what we as a community think is right. I'm not asking anyone to solve the crime right this second.

Okay, seriously, how do you think people get evidence? You can't get crap done by playing armchair quarterback, you have to question people. And when a guy's reaction to getting asked some questions is to turn on the waterworks and lie to people about what's happening? That's telling.

So if the time comes around that you or your brother are suspected of any kind of wrong doing, you'd be fine with either of you being interrogated, intimidated, or threatened? You think that's how we should do things? I just wanna make sure I understand you.

For arguments sake, lets say he didn't do it. You feel quite so good about everything you've done? If he's innocent you've not only put the burden of proof on the one your accusing, but you've managed to attack one of the victims of the person you're trying to catch. What's that make you? 'Cause I don't think it's the good guy.

I got asked to come share what happened, and I did. Those guys came to our house, something of ours went missing, and then it was used in a crime. Those are facts. And anybody can connect the dots!

I didn't see any lies. And that still doesn't make it right. If you have to intimate an answer out of somehow that's not reliable. People will say anything if pressed hard enough.

That's not even- I don't care right now if he did do it. This shouldn't happen like this to anyone, guilty or innocent.

If someone came at me like that I'd be defensive too. You went in there like you all ready had the answer.

[Keith frowned.]

I mean, it's not right that someone did what they did... but, like you said. Weird stuff happens here all the time. [He took a deep breath.] I don't know. It's a tough call, because how do you know if someone was being affected by something or not? Who do you believe?

Because, if we start doing that, then people who are really doing bad things on their own might start claiming it wasn't really them.

[Yeah. Keith tended to overthink these things when he wasn't just doing this on the fly.]

You can attack people with more than just fists. You're looking pretty attacked right now. It doesn't feel good, does it?

Do you know for a fact that they are the ones who took it? Or that it went missing while they were in your house? 'Cause even if you did, at best that proves they stole something. It implies a whole lot, and that's worth talking about, but you are making a hell of a lot of assumptions.

Yeah, I am feeling pretty attacked, because no one wants to listen! Like no one even cares that people are getting stabbed, or strangled, or who knows what next! And maybe they don't because all I get told is, "Oh yeah, plenty of people have attacked each other here, la-di-da! Maybe the killer will kick your head in next." And then they treat me like the bad guy because I think that shouldn't happen!

At least Shaw actually listened, instead of quoting the Declaration of Independence at me or whatever.

[Billy's voice relaxes a little, feeling a little less crazy as he hears Keith err into something at least a little closer to his own thoughts.]

We can't know for sure, but that's why I think it's so important that we need to start from a place of innocent until proven guilty. Of treating people the way you'd want to be treated if you were the suspect. Or your loved ones.

Yeah...

[Keith huffed a small sigh out his nose.]

Though, even if we prove that they did it, how do we prove that they did it of their own free will? Do we have anyway to prove that?

Are you listening? Where did I say I didn't care what you had to say? I said it was worth talking about, and it is. It probably would've been a lot more helpful to share that kind of thing with everyone else so we could work together to stop this, instead of a few of you playing at detective on your own.

If it's the bugs they can be found. But there's plenty we don't know about this place. I have some spells, and when Jon's around there's his whole...deal. But I don't know that I'm any more deserving of an authority, it shouldn't come down to just one person. We have trials and stuff like that for a reason, but I dunno how well that would work here either.

I don't have all the answers, I just really don't think what went down was the right call.

Okay, so I come here and share it, and then you guys just say I'm accusing someone on the network. So what do you want me to do, exactly? I told someone privately and they said eff off. I told someone publicly and they told me to shut up.

Feels like a whole lot of finger-wagging and not a lot of solutions!

Yeah... it's a lot of pressure for just one person... and then, if they disappear, who takes over? It really should be something of a consensus, but... we'd need someone to at least lead or organize it.

As far as which part? The questioning? I mean, I talked to the guy. I don't know what happened with the attacks themselves, but that whole beach incident on the Peanut? Yeah. That was... awkward.

[And Keith knew that he could have done better. But the whole thing had just been so confusing and nonsensical. He'd lost track of the conversation after a while.]

I just... I couldn't understand why he just couldn't give a straight answer. And then there were like three different incidents that came up, and it wasn't clear which one we were talking about anymore. It was really confusing. But, I'm not exactly a cop or a detective or anything. I don't know how to handle that stuff. I just went to make sure they didn't try beating each other up or killing each other or something. I didn't think I was gonna get roped into a full on interrogation.

Okay, but all that crap about how he was filming because I'd threatened him and I was armed or whatever? Didn't happen. That's not defensiveness, that's lying because you know someone is on to you and the only way out of it is to make them look like they're acting out some personal vendetta. The part about how I called him up out of the blue to tell him I hated him was bull, too.
