Keith was pretty sure he'd calculated the date right. And, with the little shadowbox he'd made for a gift, he was... well, mostly ready. It was hard to believe it had been two years already.

He had left a note for Lance to meet him at the caves on the beach. It was where he'd proposed and he felt like it could be a nice private spot to spend the evening together. While he was waiting, he sat on the edge of one of the pools, his legs dangling in the water.

[Lance knew that their anniversary was coming up, but there was always a bit of a struggle to figure out what to do. Keith didn't expect much, or anything really, he knew that. Even so, Lance would give him the universe if he could.

When Keith asked him to meet him at the caves, he was a bit surprised, but smiled as he looked at the notes. He remembered those caves well. After making sure their pets had enough food and water to be fine for the rest of the day, he quickly made his way over, eager to see his husband.]

Keithy~?

[He called out his name as he headed into the caves.]

[Keith groaned.]

You know I hate that nickname...

[He grumbled a bit as he laid back to stare up at the cave ceiling.

The pool he'd picked was the same somewhat isolated one from when he'd proposed.]

And you know I'm gonna keep calling you that anyway.

[He teased as he made his way over, looking at him. Well, it looked like Keith was already comfy in the water, so Lance began to strip himself down.]

[Keith made a whiny noise about it.]

You're lucky I love you. Anyone else would get their ass kicked for it.

[He pulled his shirt off and then eased himself off the edge of the pool until he was about waist deep in the water.]

Before you get in, though... [Keith pointed out the small package.] I don't want that getting wet.

[It was wrapped up in plain brown paper, with a sketch of Lance's pets on the front that Keith had drawn.]

I am lucky you love me. Luckiest man in the world. Universe. All of time in existence.

[He was mid unbuckling his belt when Keith pointed the package out. Lance raised an eyebrow, but moved to take it, a smile growing on his face when he saw the sketch.]

This is...so cute, Keith...

[But it was just the wrapping. He very carefully unwrapped it, not wanting to tear the sketch (which he was going to absolutely hang up later). And when he saw what was inside, his eyes went wide, reading it.

Keith wasn't always terribly sappy, but when he was..]

Oh my god, babe...

[Drawing was a very personal thing for Keith, so sharing a sketch with someone was a big deal.

Sketching wiggly animals, too, was really hard. Thanks, Oliver.]

I um... [He scrunched his nose up a bit, feeling a little embarrassed.] I know there's like this thing about certain anniversaries having like, special types of gifts or something. The second is cotton... or wood... so, I did both with the wood frame, and the cotton rope.

[He shrugged, trying to make it less of a deal than it actually was... because... Keith.]

I...actually didn't know that. Huh. But that makes it even more special.

[Lance beams at him, moving in to grab Keith, tugging him in for a hard kiss.]

[Keith was kind of glad for the dim lighting in the glowing crystal cave because it meant the warmth in his face wasn't as visible as a blush. He squeezed his eyes shut for a moment as they kissed, and then smiled before kissing Lance back again.]

You're worth the effort.

You make me fall in love a little more every day, y'know.

[Another brief kiss, and he finishes stripping, sliding into the water soon after. Lance let out a happy sigh at the feeling of it against his skin.]

[Uuuuugh... Keith could feel his face get warmer again, so he just sank into the water next to Lance trying not to be stupid.]

How did I end up with the super sappy husband?

[Said the guy who drew a personal sketch on the wrapping paper of a cute sappy gift......]

I dunno, you married me.

[God, he was so glad for this place. With all the trouble they ran into this world several times a year, and the...well, bleak atmosphere of it all, it was good to have a pocket of natural beauty and calm amongst it all.]

[That got a small chuckle in response.]

Yeah... I guess I did. It was even my idea.

[He'd been the one to actually propose, after all, regardless of whether Lance had been thinking it or not. He shifted, leaning his head against the other's shoulder.]

No regrets. Totally worth it.

[He smiled a bit.

Despite everything... this whole place, being away from everyone else in their lives back home, this was honestly the one thing they had here... each other. They didn't have it back home. Despite Lance's confidence that there was a chance they'd get there if they ever went back, Keith sometimes had his doubts. But, he was also used to things not going his way in life.

He still wondered about things, remembering there was stuff to do still, and people he wanted to see again. It was hard because it meant he had to choose between that and having Lance. And, sure, in a way, this place was really the one that was going to ultimately make that choice for them, he hated thinking about it...

It was easier not to and just pretend it wasn't a problem. And they could celebrate their anniversary in a romantic glowing crystal hot spring together.]

So, um... [Okay, confession time.] I didn't exactly make elaborate plans this time around, so... Was there anything you maybe wanted? Like a particular meal or something?

[Keith wasn't even sure if Lance had planned anything. They'd been kind of coasting on important dates lately...]

[He'd spent years in something akin to denial of the worst case scenario: going back home and not remembering this. Not remembering their years long relationship, their marriage. It wasn't as if the doubts didn't still fester, though. How could he not worry, when this meant so much to him? When Keith did-- And not only Keith, everything he'd experienced from the Drift Fleet onwards, everyone he'd met...

No, he'd prefer to believe they'll be able to hold onto this somehow.

He scooted close, humming.]

I didn't really think too much about it, actually...

Really? [Keith actually laughed.] So I thought of this and you didn't? [He gave Lance a soft playful poke in his side.]

Well, alright... then I'm asking. Is there anything you want?

Maybe I just decided to give you the relationship limelight. [He pokes right back.]

Honestly? I don't know. Is saying "just you" cheating?

Cheating? [Keith shrugged, only squirming slightly from the return poke.] I can't say it's cheating when I use that all the time. [He laughed a little.]

I'm okay with that, though. I like that.

Then there you go. That's all I want. All I need, really, in this crazy big ol' universe of ours. Well, not really ours, or maybe ours... I've given up on trying to figure that out a looooooong time ago.

[He gives him a smile and rests against him.]

Heh, yeah. Too many universes... or realities... or whatever they are.

[Honestly, dealing with a second one back home had been enough... and then Drift Fleet... and then this place... Keith wasn't sure if there was a limit on the number he wanted to think about, but, four was probably already past that.

He shifted a bit so they were more comfortable in the water, stealing a quick kiss.]

So... just two guys, sitting in the water, cuddled together because we're totally married?

[Was that bad? That was bad... Keith wasn't good at meme-ing.]

[Over all these years, Lance had learned to go with the flow when it came to these kinds of things. But it still never quite made it less confusing in the end once he put any sort of thought into it.]

Babe... You memeing is one of the greatest presents you could give me.

[Keith shook his head.]

No. No, it's not. I'm terrible at it.

[Look, he was self-aware enough to know when he sucked at something.]

You did a good job just there!

[He points it out, trying to be encouraging. Maybe it'll give Keith the confidence to meme even more.]

You're just saying that because you're biased. It's your job to be nice to me.

[Or something like that blah blah husband blah blah.]

[He shook his head.]

Of course I'm biased, but I wasn't biased in my journey of getting to be biased.

[Keith snorted.]

No. I guess not on that.

[It was no secret that they'd been really abrasive to one another early on.]

Like, I legit thought you hated me for the longest time.

I thought you did, too. Which is part of why I acted the way I did for so long...

[He sighed, giving Keith a very light kick underneath the water.]

We really were idiots, weren't we?

Hey... [Keith gave him a bit of a pout.] I'm not an idiot. I'm just bad at people-ing.

[No, he could definitely be an idiot, but he was also still bad at people-ing.]
