[The feed clicks on to a still slightly damp Cipher Nine, though he's obviously found himself some shelter. Where ever it is he's hunkered down to wait out the storm, the windows can be heard rattling however, and the storm itself can still be heard. The man himself looks a bit peeved.]

Greetings, fellow inmates. This is Cipher Nine, from Imperial Intelligence- though from what I've gathered, this means nothing to most of you.

Still, you may all call me Agent or Nine.

[He huffs.] I've already gone through much of the network and I've got the information the Agrii so generously decided download directly into my fucking brain through data point, as though my brain hasn't been through enough already.

[He sighs, looking about 20 years older than he actually is. He looks tired.] So I won't go I want to go home, I'm upset or I'm not a hero, why am I here or even I'm upset with the Agrii for kidnapping me or cause a scene or what the hell ever.

[Did he put on a squeaky voice for that? Yes he did.] Instead, I'll ask what you all are keeping yourselves amused with during this storm.

That I'm worth taking the time to get to know again, perhaps.

[He's not really sure. Still, it is true that he's a different man now than when he first met Vector. Maybe he just feels like he needs to prove that this version of him is worth getting to know as much as the man he used to be.

That this version of him might be better, kinder.

Or maybe he isn't better or kinder at all. He truly can't really tell.] I don't really know either, to be honest.

But I am willing to put in the work to be your friend again.

Welcome, Nine. [ There is a wave and a grin, if a tired looking one. ]

I'm a new arrival, too. Calvin Rankin. [ He shifts back and blows out a long breath, then nods. ]

As for the storm, I've been recovering from nearly dying, so, mostly resting.

What a fun condition for you to arrive in. I assume there are people here capable of patching up serious injuries then- good to know.

[It's obvious that he's being sarcastic, a quip aimed at the Agrii. It seems rather cruel to take a nearly dying man without at least patching him up first.

Still, always stash useful information away for later. There's a lesson that's bound to stick in his mind even if he should forget everything else.] A pleasure to make your acquaintance, mister Rankin.

You know, despite everything.

Yes. Mostly. Healing time added in, I feel very alive, which is nice.

[ Calvin is lacking in humor on that point, but he grins at the end. ]

Yeah, I get it. Not exactly a resort destination.

But so far, I haven't died, or starved, or been shot at here, so... I am calling it a tentative win.

Being alive is definitely preferable to being dead.

[More of that slight snark. He is serious though. He's hovered sort of in that area between dead and alive himself a few times.

Definitely not. I've seen bombed out war zones in... Well, at least slightly better condition. Until the next orbital strike, at least.

[He offers a slight smile and there might even have been a huff of laughter there.] Not being shot at, starved, or killed. Always a plus, that.

Most of the time, I do agree.

[ Calvin nods, shrugging. He's a little weird okay? ]

Agreed, and people seem friendly, and one saved my life, so... yes.

You have yet to do or say anything that would dissuade us from wanting to be friends with you.

[He can see a sadness there, but it has to be about more than just a friend being from a time before they met. Could he really have been so terrible that Vector would not like him?]

[He arches an eyebrow because some elaboration is required.]

Friendly indeed. Guess yours truly is the odd one out.

... Can't be fun though, owing someone for saving your life right off the bat. Unless they don't seem like the kind of person who'd consider it a debt to be paid.

My melodrama not enough to scare you off then?

[It's said with a slight smile, so it seems to have been mostly a joke.]

Perish the thought.

[There's the hint of a smile on him too, just a little quirk of his lips.]

When you've lived my life? Yes, only most.

[ He nods as he listens, grinning a little. ]

If one lives among people soon one lives a life of owed and being owed many debts, many times over. Or else, one is an idiot. Some of those are taken care of by life, some by chance.

I've been through some shit. Can't say I've ever actively wished for the cold embrace of death. Unless it's quick and painless, in which case, I wouldn't be able to complain.

[His life is never so easy, though. He's made peace with the fact that his death won't be a fun one. Definitely not looking forward to it, and he prefers living with... Minimal amounts of pain and definitely no torture.]

Hm. Poetic. Think of that one all by yourself?

[He likes that. That small smile.

Of course, seeing it is sad too, but he's trying to focus on the positive rather than the negative.]

Good to know. I'm... Looking forward to get to know you all over again.

[ And he nods, shrugging. ]

Yes. Just how I see things.

A life of debt seems pretty sad to me, regardless of the form the debt takes. But yes, to each their own.

[Not that he doesn't carry some debts with him, himself. He's just not quite so open about what he owes and what he is owed.

And they're not truly relevant here, either.] You recovering all on your lonesome then? I did ask how people are keeping themselves entertained, after all, and being alone with only resting to do seems utterly boring.

And, in truth, I am enjoying the solitude. It's... nice.

[ Free of the patterns of others, anywhere near him. ]

Interesting. Wonder if he's gone home or if the Agrii have taken him away for nefarious purposes.

[It's something to ponder, at any rate.] Not used to having time for yourself?

No clue, yet. Apparently some people come and go a number of times, by the power of the Agrii.

[ He chuckles. ]

Harder to get free of people in my world. Too many people who want in everyone's busienss.

Also interesting. Wonder if there's any rhyme or reason to it.

[Something to ponder. Something to keep an eye out for. Aden's nothing if not observant.] As if that's not the truth everywhere.

The powers that be in any world will want to keep its populace under control by getting in everyone's business.

I'm still new here, so I do not know.

[ He doubts it. Powers in his very limited experience are chaotic beings with little in the way of rules. ]

If people don't do it for them already.

Guess I know what I'm adding to my list of stuff to do once this damned storm passes.

[He doesn't trust the comm he's been given, so he figures he'll stick to his own datapad. But he's not going to risk it being damaged by using it in there conditions.]

I hope you mean unwittingly, because if there's any masses out there who seek to put chains on themselves by sticking their noses where they don't belong, only to turn around and give that information to people who shouldn't have it...

Then that's a yikes.

That really seems to me to be most people, honestly.

[ And that is how he feels about most people, really, in a nutshell. Not bright, really, and often making dumb decisions in dumb places. ]

Who needs the government of any particular place breathing down your neck when they've got their pets doing it for them for free, hm?

[Not that he doesn't get it. After all, he has been working for the Empire for years, and if there's any place that bends over backwards to serve the Sith...

Of course, doesn't help that the Sith love maneuvering their little game pieces around, either. Everyone knows everyone else's business, trust no one, because everyone lies and everyone will get into business they have no business being in.

Feels like being back at Intelligence.

Maybe it's discouraging that that seems to be the truth of the world no matter if it's a different nation, planet, or dimension. Or maybe he was expecting it.] I guess I take your point. A bit of freedom with no puppet master in sight is a breath of fresh air.
