Tommy definitely wasn't producing any strong arguments, instead seemed to be debating for the wrong side. It wasn't that Billy was homophobic now, and it wasn't even that he was straight, and it couldn't be the age, it was just the broadly appealing choice of gift that Billy happened to not be impressed by.
