Daniel wants to explore and now it's everybody else's problem

"Woooooooah!"

It's not that Daniel isn't traumatized by catastrophic events, but he's very easily distracted. What is catching his interest is indeed the maze-like structure before him. And now he's making it somebody else's problem as he pulls on their arm to get their attention.

"This place is huge! It's a freaking maze...Can I lift you up to see where it goes?"

Um, see, she probably shouldn't have been wandering around, but she had, and now here she was, looking at little kid who seems to think he can lift her up. He's really not that strong looking. What?

More than that, she looks up at the metal roof a bit overhead.

"I'm, uh, not sure that's a good idea. Like, I can't see around walls?"

"Hmm. There's gotta be an open point. We need to find a higher place if we wanna see where this leads."

Which, they don't have to, but dude, it's a fucking maze, what are you supposed to do if not explore it? is pretty much Daniel's frame of mind in this situation.

[work_wife]

A higher place? She frowns.

"Uh, except we're in an underground set of metal corridors? I don't know if there is a place where we can see over walls? It's tunnels, not a corn field?"

And that means she can't really help him in the way that he thinks.

"Think we can break the ceiling with something?"

Daniel doesn't mind breaking stuff. In fact, he loves to break stuff! As any nine year old with too much power would.

[work_wife]

"Wouldn't that make everything cave down on us? You know, up where the lava is!?" she asks, horrified. This is the worst plan. Stop!

"Not if you break it just a little."

Ugh.

"...Right?"

[work_wife]

"No," she says, voice firm in that 'I am used to telling kids not to do something reckless' thing. "Let's NOT kill everyone."

Boooooo! Lame!

"Well, I'm going in and you can't stop me! Wheee!"

Daniel runs in emulating what can probably be described as a Naruto run. Turns a couple of corners. He's not lost...Yet.

No, she can't. She sighs and trails slowly after the kid.

"Steve, where are you? This is you job not mine."

[supercub]

"Psst! You heard that?"

He whispers, 'that' being absolutely nothing.

"It's quiet. Too quiet. Maybe they put a trap for us. Like scorpions."

[work_wife]

Why would there be a trap?

"The little mushroom people are trying to protect us. Why would they put in a trap?"

Geez, this kid was going to be a handful.

"Why not?"

A very underrated answer to the question why, in Daniel's opinion.

[work_wife]

"Pretty sure when you're accusing the little plant people that offered us shelter of making a trap, you have to provide more than 'why not' as your response."

In fact, she's certain you have some reason to say something like that.

"Uhhh, it's a fucking maze? What else are you supposed to put in the wrong paths?"

Duh.

[work_wife]

"I don't think they meant for us to be in the maze. I think they just meant us to be safe."

And that's really not a thing they can help.

"Well, if that is the case, then why not tell us what's inside it?"

[work_wife]

"Have you considered that they don't know?"

Why should they? They were plants. Shouldn't they be near the surface normally?

[supercub]

"Do you hear yourself?" Daniel scoffs obnoxiously "How the fuck would they make a maze without knowing what's inside it?"

Not that he hasn't abundantly proven it already, but he is not the most well mannered of kids.

[work_wife]

"Because they didn't make it," Robin says with a tone that says 'duh'. "I may not have been here long, but I've definitely heard that there are actual aliens here, you know, the ones that kidnapped us? And the little fungus people dont' seem to be them."

So clearly they didn't make this!

"Okay, that's a fair point, BUT if they didn't make it then what's the point of including it while building this place? You can't just build your house around shit and then not claim responsibility for it."

He remarks like he's not going for a walk in the potentially deadly unknown labyrinth himself.

[work_wife]

"You're kidding, right?"

Robin just... stares at him.

"You don't really get how people are, do you? What if they don't normally live in this place? Like, we followed them down here. I saw them coming down here with their own supplies. So this isn't their home. They don't build their houses here."

[supercub]

"Well if that was the case they would have put a sign that said that this place is not theirs and they don't know what's inside it."

He points out, pedantic and just willing to argue because he's bored, as if that sign would have stopped him from going here anyway.

[work_wife]

"Seriously? When would they have done that?" Robin asks. The little mushrooms got here at the same time as them. "And we can't even speak their language! Maybe they did put up a sign!"

What in the world. This kid is more maddening than Dustin is.
