WHO: Peter and Sporting Fans

WHAT: Peter Plays Sports and doesn't have to pretend it's killing him

Peter likes this version of Dodgeball so much better than the one back home. For one thing, he'd didn't have to worry about Flash Thompson throwing the ball in his face much harder than necessary and then pretending like he didn't mean to throw it that hard. This was so much better because the shuttlecocks don't hurt.

That and they're so easy to dodge. He rolls out of the way of another one and hops up with a grin on his face. This is the first time in a long time he's been excited about sports. "That the best you can do? You were way off!"

He dives to grab one of the shuttlecocks and launches it with maybe a tad more strength than necessary just to make sure it gets the distance it needs.

Okay, he feels maybe a little bad about it but it doesn't say he can't use his powers so it's not technically cheating. Not really. Besides, how was he supposed to give up his chance to really show off what his powers can do?

That means that once he finds the rock climbing wall, Peter just walks up the wall to the top and then back down again. He does it several times, running a few times, just jumping once or twice, and sometimes climbs the wall the right way with an assist from his special stickiness.

He hops back down from the top and it's a little jarring as there's not enough shock absorbency in his regular tennis shoes like there is in his suit. But hey! now he's got a bunch of not! chuck E Cheese tickets.

So far, Peter's had a blast playing games and winning points. If he keeps this up, he can get more replicator tokens and get all the things he needs to make his webfluid. He's already cheated a few of the games so what's the harm in adding another to that list?

He moves over to the Tug-of-war area and rolls up his sleeves and gets into position. He probably won't even have to use his full strength.

"You sure that counts as climbing?"

Cal's proven to be able to scale the rock wall pretty quickly even without sticky powers, so he might give Peter some competition. But the Jedi's not really complaining. One might have to wonder why he's ever had to climb so fast.

Link's making good progress up the wall, confident and sure as he finds handholds and quickly scales upwards.

And then Peter just...walks up next to him, and Link stops.

"...How?!" he says, staring.

Can Peter teach him to do that?!

Don't mind her. Lark had been moving around to watch people compete while she worked on her spinning, and had been pleased to see the way Peter was moving. Yes, it wasn't exactly natural, but she's seen so many things here that she's taking it in stride.

"Is this normally how you get around?"

Peter's on his eleventh or tenth trip up the wall and stops a moment, thoroughly impressed at how quickly Cal can climb. It probably looks a bit odd with him standing up completely parallel from the ground. He crouches down grips one of the climbing holds and shrugs.

"If you go up a steep hill, it's still considered a climb. Besides, I'd stick to the wall regardless." He offers.

"...How come your so fast at climbing, anyway?"

"Hm?" Peter pauses, looking like he isn't even a little worried about falling. "Oh, I can stick to any surface." He explains. "It's part of my spider powers."

Unfortunately, he cannot teach Link how to do it and he definitely wouldn't recommend getting bit by a radio active spider. He's pretty sure it almost killed him. Then again, so did pretty much everything before the spider bite.

Peter makes another trip back down to the ground and rolls his shoulders as though he's been caused even a little bit of discomfort. He wasn't.

"Uh.. well.. no? I usually swing around on my webs. But this is the first time I've been able to compete in sports and not have to pretend like a stiff breeze will knock me over."

The Jedi laughs. "That's true I guess. And they didn't really specify how to climb."

He could probably shave off some seconds if he used to the Force to launch himself between farther handholds during an ascent, but it's not nearly so bad a climb doing it the old-fashioned way.

"I used to be a rigger for the Scrapper Guild. Wasn't really safe a lot of the time depending on what portions of a starship you had to scale while it was actively being dismantled, so you had to move fast or hang on." He flashes a crooked grin. "...although totally unrelated, sometimes you just find yourself on a hostile planet being chased by some giant winged creature up a cliffside."

"...Spider powers?" he says, as he starts climbing again. (He does, after all, still want those points. Also it will probably be easier to ask Peter about how he sticks to walls when Link's not in the middle of a climb.)

Well that makes her smile at him. Oh, she much remembers the webs, even though it has been so long since that winter day that she saved him from his 'hammock' efforts. Over a year actually.

"So the webbing you were stuck in was some you had put up then? Interesting indeed."

Peter bites his lip and furrows his brow. Sure, things are different here and he did just fight a giant bear-badger thing but the idea of running from a giant winged beast is… bizarre.

“Yeah, I hate when that happens-always makes me late to school…” Peter comments.

“Yup!” Peter resumes his casual walk up the side of the wall. “I somehow managed to get bit by a radioactive spider and I’m pretty sure it almost killed me. Now I can stick to any surface and I got super strength. But I’m also now deathly allergic to lavender and mint so… even trade, I guess?” He shrugs.

“I’m Peter, by the way, Peter Parker.” He introduces himself.

Cal would be on the fence if he had to choose between running from the thing and being stuck on its back as it flew around some good hundreds of feet in the air. He's only glad he ever had to deal with a chirodactyl once.

Dropping down the last few feet from the wall, the Jedi dusts his hands off. "How's anyone keeping track of any of these things anyway? I know it's a quick way to rack up points- more practical by your method, I'll admit," he laughs, "-but I can only climb so many times before it stops being fun."

"Oh... yeah.." Peter says awkwardly. "I uh.. back then I was trying to keep my powers secret 'cause... well, honestly I'm not sure why that was so important to me. Worried about people back home I guess." He explains with a shrug.

"But then uh.. when that happened with Beck happened... he knew about my powers so it was better to stop hiding them on my own terms, 'Cause at least then it was my choice, you know? Instead of being blind-sided. Plus a bunch of people already knew so that was a thing." Honestly, he kinda likes that he can just run around and now have to worry about this identity now. He can just be a kid and while it's not really anywhere he would have thought he'd end up, it's kinda nice to just be a kid.

"But I'm all out now-I gotta figure out how to make more."

Ah yes. Beck. Lark's expression sours at the reminder of the man.

"Ah, that could be difficult. It was very... stubborn material, I remember. I couldn't make anything with it. And it dissolved in air!"

What a wondrous fiver.

"I'm Link," he says. And then adds: "Where are radioactive spiders?"

Because obviously, Link totally wants to have super strength and the ability to stick to anything. He'd be sad to never have mint again, sure. But...sticking to walls.

He'd be able to keep climbing in all the rainstorms.

"No clue." Peter shakes his head. "I just keep trying to beat my own personal score and it's a very easy way to racks up points for anyone that's a good climber, really." He has a decent amount of points but, he's not really here for that. He's just trying to have a good time.

"If climbing stops being fun we can always go play something else? Ultimate Frisbee looks looks fun."

"Yeah. Although I'm not sure it was intended for an easy point gain," Cal laughs. Having people with special abilities has probably thrown off a lot of the games.

"I'm game if you are. Haven't really played Ultimate Frisbee before but it looks pretty simple." Until you get a guy with spider powers and a Jedi involved.

"Last time I played, I had to pretend to get winded every time I had the frisbee and I had to miss on purpose. I'm so down for this." Peter says excitedly.

Surely, everything will be fine and things won't get bent horribly out of place. Do they lose points if the break the frisbee basket?

Peter just gives him a look like he might have sprouted another head that quickly changes to one of concern. Did Link miss the part about he almost died?

"Dead." He says bluntly. "It got stomped on right after it bit me-at least, I think it did. I kinda passed out and woke up on the bus- but the point is it's very dead." May it rest in piece. "But dude, you do not want to get bit by anything that's been dosed in radiation. Very high chance you just end up poisoned. It's definitely not worth it."

"Y-yeah.. It's made to dissolve. I can't be just leaving strings of webs all over the city. Someone has to go and clean all that up." Peter explains, thinking about how mad waste management would be if his webs just stayed attached to building. "Usually it takes about two to four hours but sometimes it'll last longer."

Cal grins. "Well, no restrictions here! Just give me a demonstration so I know what we're doing, but then we should be good to go."

So long as they're not breaking things on purpose, surely there can be no demerits!

Link's ears droop a little, when he hears that it's dead. So much for his new dream of sticking to all of the walls. Although there's another part of Peter's explanation that Link is still a little confused about.

"What's radiation?"

Oh geez, that would be horrible.

"Well, if you need them removed here faster, do let me know."

Her magic would easily call the webbing, as she had proven.

"How do you make it?"

Okay, that's not exactly the follow up question he was expecting. How do you explain radiation to someone that's probably never heard of it?

"It's-highly poisonous-there's a few different kinds but prolonged exposure can make you really sick like organ failure sick or mess up genetic coding-major health hazard. Anything dealing with any level of radiation back home has to be marked with a label." He explains.

"It's a bad time man, a bad time is had by all."

"Doesn't matter, I don't have any left." He pressed down on the button to release his webbing but all that comes out is a small hiss of air.

"I modeled it after spider silk because that stuff's like crazy strong. A lot people don't think about it-at least back home- because you can just walk through a web and it gets knocked down so I needed to find something that had same basic tensile strength and I went through a few different trial and errors but I found out that-" Peter starts as he goes into much more intricate detail on how his webbing works and how it's made.

Link tilts his head to one side. He hears the words 'organ failure' and 'messed up genetic coding'...but perhaps doesn't really have the proper understanding to realise what that actually means.

"The spider was sick?"

"Yes, it is very strong. The sorts of fibers insects make for themselves have to be, to compensate for wind. Silk is a good example of this."

And he's a very smart young man to have come up with this.
