i. Illegal frog drinks [closed to Tae]

Link was very enthusiastic about the games. Very, very enthusiastic. To the point where he essentially spent all available time madly running around, doing all of the games he could. And then running around and doing them all again.

Eventually of course, he ran low on energy. But that was okay - because he'd figured out how to make a good Stamina Elixir earlier. Which he decides to drink midway through the first day.

It's bright green. He doesn't make any effort to hide it as he skulls the thing in the middle of the 'sports area'. And immediately after drinking it, he perks up.

Now he can do go all of the games again!


ii. Balloon popping [Open]

Link has an interesting approach to the balloon popping. He stands on the chair, his compound bow drawn. And then when the timer starts, he jumps off of the chair and aims the bow.

As he hands in mid air, time slows down - allowing him to line up multiple shots at the balloons. To everyone else, it will look like Link is shooting impossibly fast. Then he lands and runs to where the balloons popped, trying to grab the points out of the air before they even hit the ground.

It probably only makes finding the points in amongst the glitter only a little easier. But he seems to make it work anyway.


iii. Climbing wall [Open]

Link does all of the games multiple times. But the climbing wall? That one he repeats to possibly ridiculous levels.

He doesn't bother with the ladder at the back. He just zooms up the wall with sheer climbing skill and ability. The fact that Link is good at this particular game is probably a surprise to absolutely no one who has already seem him climbing all over Temba and Sh'ka.

Eventually though, Link gets bored of climbing the normal way - and starts calling on Revali's Gale, a gust of wind accompanied by the spirit of a Rito. It launches him up into the air, and then Link just grabs onto the wall, getting a quick and immediate boost at the start.


iv. Paraglider Please [Open]

The moment Link has enough points, there's only one thing he's after.

The paraglider.

It looks different from the one Tony directed him towards. It's a lot smaller, and just made of wood and fabric rather than any more advanced materials. When folded up, it doesn't take up much space at all. But it's Link's, and he wants it back.

"Paraglider please!" he says to the projecting managing the prizes, before urgently grabbing at it the moment it's in range.


v. The Deep End [Closed to Cayde]

A few days after the sports event is over, Link takes a few pieces of the mgoose's anters that had broken off as he shoved them into his room at the Hotel. Then he makes his way to a place he hasn't actually explored yet, but which he's managed to find marked on his map - the Deep End.

When he walks in, he gives the bar a quick glance - but it's the wall of windows looking out into the lake's water that he's immediately drawn to. He moves over to the windows, staring out at the underwater landscape and aquatic life.

Don't mind Tae, with her pockets rattling with chits, freshly back from the Pry Says tent with her new shoes already on her feet so she can try some sports for actual point collection.

What she isn't expecting to see is someone downing a liquid and then seeming... Well, it's a stimulant, that much is clear.

"And what was that?" she asked as she approached Link.

Oh hey, it's Tae! Link gives her a nod as she approaches.

As for the drink, he sees no reason not to explain. "Stamina Elixir!" he says.

Stamina what now?

"What does it do?" she asks, sounding distrustful.

"Neat, huh?"

The Hunter's in his usual spot behind the counter, idly sharpening a knife, one of several that he's got laid out on the counter. On one of the barstools on the opposite side is a reddish-brown feathered hen who looks to be napping.

"Give you more stamina?" Link says, tilting his head to one side. Wasn't that obvious, from the name?

Link nods, clearly rapt as he doesn't even tear his eyes away from the window. He just...looks.

He's seen lakes, of course. Seen reefs under the ocean's surface. But never from this perspective, like he's in it. This must be what the Zora get to see.

After a few moments, though, Link manages to tear his eyes away from the window and come over to the bar. Next to the collection of knives, he carefully lays on the bar the pieces of mgoose antlers that he promised Cayde.

"You're taking a performance enhancing substance?"

"Oy!"

Here's an interesting little sight. A three foot tall cat, tail lashing back and forth, standing on its hind legs with hand-like paws braced against the barrier of the balloon popping.

"How ya do that?"

Because Mini really is interested in this.

Cayde grins, setting his things down to reach over and pick up one of the antler pieces.

"Nice! I think these'll work out great. Dare I ask what you did with the rest of the thing?"

Because that was a whole lot of mgoose.

Link's eyebrows furrow together.

"A...what?"

Instead of talking, Link's eyes go wide. Because as it turns out, Link has yet to meet any of their resident talking cats.

"You talk!" he says with amazement.

"Put it in my room."

Which meant that now, his room was pretty much entirely taken up my mgoose antlers. And all of Link's other stuff. Traversing through it was now somewhat of a challenge.

He was probably going to need another room.

"What, the whole carcass?"

Cayde laughs, trying to imagine that. Actually that would be kind of gross. He turns over the antler piece in his hands, bouncing it in his palm to get a feel for the weight.

Link gives Cayde a look, and then shakes his head. "...The antlers."

Which where still pretty big all on their own. But not as bad as stuffing an entire dead body in there. Which, he's pretty sure, wouldn't fit.

He glances at the piece of antlers, then the row of knives Cayde laid out on the bar. "You'll make a knife?" He said something about wanting to do that, didn't he?

"Right, of course. Makes more sense. I don't think there's any one place that would fit all of that thing anyway." Even if chopped up.

The Exo looks down at the knives he's been sharpening, chuckling. "Well, more like repairing. I'm not exactly a smith, although I know a pretty good one so I guess making a knife's not impossible."

He picks one of them up, giving the handle a wiggle that shouldn't be possible. "This one's loose. I've been picking up knives from places whenever I get the chance, but of course some are nice than others, and some could be better."

Link looks at the knife, seeing the wiggle. Yes, that definitely looks like a weapon that's on the verge of breaking. Although he's not at all familiar with how you'd repair a weapon. The number of people in Hyrule who still have that knowledge are vanishingly small.

Mostly, you just scavenge old weapons until they break. Still, would be nice to have weapons that lasted a little longer...

"...How?" he says, nodding to the knife. How will he fix it?

"The blade's still pretty good. Someone just did a sloppy job on the handle. I could probably break this part off."

Cayde puts one of the antler pieces beside it as he gestures between them.

"See, the metal goes all the way through, it's kinda sandwiched between the material here- this one's wood but it's falling apart. I just gotta shape this antler bit some, probably a lot of sanding, and figure out how deep and wide the tang on this knife is, either carve out a hole just right to slide it on in or we do another sandwich job. Either way, it'll take a bit."

"The antlers will be a new handle?" Link says, fascinated. He never thought of doing such a thing with any of his weapons. When they broke, he had to just find new ones.

He has to wonder - what else could be combined with his weapons, to make them even better?

"Yep!" Cayde arches a metal brow at him, amused. "You've never seen bone or antler-handled weapons? ...although I'll admit, not very common anymore, back home, but it used to be a thing, pre-Golden Age."

He sets the knife down to study the antler shard more closely.

"Guess you could use this as a weapon in a fix- technically they're natural weapons, but obviously not unbreakable."

"Not in the handles," Link admits. He'd seen plenty where the bones were part of the weapon itself - or in the case of bokoblin or moblin arms, the entire weapon - but not the handle alone.

Still, he nods. He can see Cayde's point. "Better than a tree branch," Link notes.

The Hunter taps his fingers on the bartop. "...depends on where the bones and stuff are from too. I don't see a whole lot of organic material being used for weapons back where I'm from, but some Guardians have armor fused with bones. More of a preference thing though, really."

He laughs then. "Oh yeah, way better than a tree branch. But I guess tree branches do in a fix."

"Guardians?!" Link says, eyes going wide with alarm. Cayde's home has Guardians? Link had never considered the possibility that the terrifying mechanical constructs might exist anywhere other than Hyrule...

Really?

"Drugs," she says. Because apparently blunt was needed.

If only Mini was one of the proper talking cats. But for now he's just watching and considering. And looking vaguely offended.

"Aye, and ya got a problem with it?"

The outburst surprises him. It definitely startles Colonel, who rouses out of her nap with a brief fluttering of her wings.

"Yeah? I mean, it's technically my job description. I guess Felwinter could be considered one but I don't think they were calling us Guardians back when he's from." He waves a hand. "Anyway, it's complicated."
