Time for Tending Plants [Open]

Oh What Insanity Is This
It was nice to be able to step off the ship and finally be back in Temba. While it wasn't actually home, it was nice to actually return to the place that had become sort of become home.

That's what he really would have liked to think. As he stepped out of the hangar and was able to survey Temba again, he was completely dumbstruck by everything that had happened. He just... stood there as he stared at it. The plants... there was just so much of it. It was everywhere...

"What the hell happened here? How long were we gone?"

Even though the urge to just stand and stare at the mess was really very tempting, it wouldn't do anything to make things better so finally, he went to find something that he could use to start cutting plants down. Dark that his new arm didn't have the same abilities as his old one and he couldn't just use THAT.

However, the metal arm did come in handy (ha) because he could use it to help push plants to the side with less worry about it actually hurting him. No feeling and very hard to damage helped like that.

But after working for a while, it didn't feel like they had really gotten anywhere. He grumbled before looking at the person next to him.

"How long have we been at this?"

Save the Glownie!
Shiro hadn't been planning on being out so late. He'd kind of lost track of time. One would say it was stupid for him to have been so careless as to forget about this part...

Shiro would call it a blessing though since as he was trying to find his way back, he stumbled upon a faint glowing light among the trees. Moving closer, he spotted one of the glownies that had wandered away from the its home in this mess. Maybe it smelled mint somewhere.

But that wasn't all he spotted. There was Thorntooth that was attempting to sneak up on it, ready for an easy target.

Shiro, of course, couldn't let that happen, charging to get to the Glownie first, having only a dinky weapon to try and delay it in his attempt to flee with the Glownie.

Sorry, crew of the Bishop or anyone else who would be there, there is temporarily a Glownie wandering around on the ship one night...

It wasn't that Tommy meant to come along with Shiro exactly. He didn't know WHAT he was supposed to do here. Hell, with his expertise he was probably better off looking for answers. But Tommy wasn't the best answers person, and seeing Shiro go off on his own had meant that he'd felt compelled to follow.

But damn, it had not been an easy trip.

"Do you really wanna know? I'm pretty good at keeping track of time when I'm conscious."

He sees a vine slowly moving toward them on the ground and, annoyed, gestures at it with his hand. The thing explodes, and yuck, there is sap on him, but whatever. Still stands by his choice.

Radley wakes up to some strange noises and wanders out of his room with a frown, rubbing one eye. What was going on? Had mutant plants crashed into the ship?!

He just stares at the Glownie, dumbfounded. "What ..."

He's not familiar with these yet, and what's it doing on the ship?!

Shiro hadn't asked for company, but he was definitely glad to have it. It was not always safe being alone - even though he would do it anyway. Besides, it was nice to have someone to talk to or lament to in that case. So many vines... so little time.

Shiro considered that for a moment. "You know... probably better not. I'm curious, but I feel like it might be find of depressing to know."

He gave a sympathetic look at the reaction to the sap that landed on Tommy, of course, some having gotten on him as well, but it was par for the course right now.

"Hey, where did you go?" he'd hear someone call from another room and the glowing pony with a lots of fluff like a sheep looked up.

Shiro came jogging out, spotting Radley in the hall.

"Hey, sorry about that. It was a little too dangerous to try and get this guy back to the barn tonight so I brought him here. Just for tonight."

"It would be depressing to know."

Especially since Tommy was pretty sure how far they had gone too. Not far enough fast enough.

"Sorry man. I can't control the splatter zone from blasts. But little explosions was the best choice there. Don't want the vines eating you."

"Uh ... okay." Radley keeps staring at it. "It's tame, I hope?"

And is it too much to hope it's housebroken?

"It's fine," Shiro said. "I would much rather be alive and covered in sap then dead."

He didn't really care about that. Sap happened.

He sighed, fighting the urge to lean on something as the plant would likely attack him. "It seems like we have gone so far, but I get the feeling we really haven't."

And he didn't exactly want to turn around and prove himself right.

"They are tame," Shiro said as the Glownie trotted over to him, looking up at him expectantly. "They are animals we raise for wool called Glownies. Apparently this one picked a bad night to explore."

Housebroken? Probably not, but Shiro realized it was his fault it was here so he'll take care of any... issues.

Put that phrase on a t-shirt. You'd make money. Ironically.

"Not really," Tommy sighs. "It's... bad here. If you want, I could try and carry you somewhere."

"Ah. Kind of a horse-sheep?" Radley cautiously holds out a hand to it. He's very gentle with animals, unless they're aggressive and he has to protect himself.

That would make one heck of a shirt. There would probably be some people would buy it. If there was really money here.

"I'm sure it is fine. It's definitely something that we need to work on clearing." He sighed. "Not sure how far we could get quickly in this mess."

"Yeah. Basically. They showed up when some mint accidentally got left out."

The Glownie saw that hand and went trotting over to Radley to see him. Hello, new human.

"They're obsessed with mint?"

Radley chuckles and moves to gently pet the Glownie. "Hi there."

They could get paid in some other manner. Maybe cards praising them?

"I'm just interested on getting us somewhere safe. I don't even know where we're supposed to go. How do you stop plants? Last time things were this overgrown, it was with mint. And the glownies saved us."

OF course, it had been his fault that time. This time he doesn't feel responsible.

"They are. Surprisingly, it is their favorite snack."

The Glownie was happy there and made a contented sound at being pet.

That was a possibility...

"That is a good question. You normally have to pull out the root or use some kind of chemical to kill it, but there's just too much to do any of that."

Yeah, he wasn't at fault this time. Shiro would vouch for that.

"Huh. I wonder what they'd think of chocolate mint."

It's just an idle thought, since he knows chocolate usually isn't good for animals. He smiles, continuing to pet it.

He's not happy about these plants. That's par for the course usually but York knows the plants are dangerous for him. If they manage to somehow get into his system, it would do to him what humans did long ago. So he's mostly stuck around in the hangar, devising plans to try and fortify the front entrance for others.

But he gets low on stasis and the Bishop is the only place he knows of that's considered 'safe', so that's where he goes. Right into his top bunk and curled into his hoodie as he drifts off into his sleep mode to recharge.

When he 'wakes' from it, it's dark. Or, it's supposed to be dark. Aside from the light of his LED illuminating his chin from under the hoodie, there's another one coming from the hall. What the hell? York shimmies off of the bunk and heads out to find... what was that? He rubs his eyes, does a test of the hardware... No, all green. "Uh... are you supposed to be here?" he whispers stupidly, like the glowing sheep was going to answer him.

"Or is my programming malfunctioning?"

"It's... weird," Tommy admits as they walk. "Like... weird shit happens to plants not in the greenhouse. I have to watch them more closely. It was a pain just after the Jedi left their temple, because I had to try and take care of stuff. In the end I moved the stuff that had food value and left the rest behind."

But he hadn't expected things to get like this.

"Hmm... I've never tried. It might smell to different for them." He didn't think there was any here to try that with though.

The Glownie stepped close, enjoying the pets. Yes, pay attention to the animal.

Not malfunctioning. He really was seeing the glowing animal wandering around the ship. In fact, when he walked into the hallway, it stopped to look at him before trotting over to him. Hello, friend?

"Hey, where did you go?" a voice could be heard calling from somewhere else in the ship before Shiro appeared.

"Hey. Sorry about that. This little guy got out and it was a bad time to try and get him home tonight."

"So something about the planet makes them go crazy? How odd. So it was the same in the Jedi Temple? Even though it was a building, they started to take over?"

He couldn't imagine how difficult it was to essentially try and keep the entire planet mowed when everything wanted to take off. And the time off planet had been just the window for that to happen.

"I don't know if it's the planet. Like, we haven't planted things beyond the limits of the cities, and I don't know what it's like out there."

So it could be bad everywhere, or it could just be bad in teh cities.

A new light ignited in the darkness as Shiro attempted to get to the Glownie, a brilliant line of blue that came spinning like a disc at the Thorntooth just as it was about to lunge. The creature leapt back, part of it seared and the end of one of its limbs lobbed off, the mysterious light circling back the way it came before stopping as someone grasped the end of it.

Cal hadn't meant to be out so late either, but there was nothing to be done for it. With the state of the city it just made it more difficult to get from one end to the other in reasonable time. Just as well he'd heard the sounds as BD-1 picked up someone on his radar, and in the next moment the young Jedi had moved as that sense of danger tickled at his senses. He stood with his lightsaber held at the ready as the Thorntooth backed up, looking between him and Shiro and the Glownie.

"Don't look now, but I think there's more where that one came from," he said, his face grim as he slowly started to move closer to them.

"It probably wouldn't be good for them. Hopefully none will get left around."

He chuckles as the animal enjoys the attention. "So you guys have them somewhere as livestock?"
