Soon it's not just blurred shapes rushing past. Soon it's sand being kicked up around them, and that's barely a second before it's the spray of water, cool over skin. The sound of the scream still echoed a little, and still Tommy couldn't stop.

And then he couldn't go. The speed was gone, tens of feet from sand. He was already sinking into the water. The residual speed, slipping off of him, carried them forward but also into the water. And Tommy grabbed a quick breath before reaching out for whatever had clung to him. His arm wrapped around the man's waist and Tommy made for the nearby shore.

Soon he was dragging them up onto the beach, Tommy panting before he collapsed into the sand.
