(Her gift amuses her and she holds up the wooden impala, smiling curiously.)

Does anyone know the name of this creature? (How graceful! They look to her as if they are built for speed.) Did everyone receive one of these, by chance? Is there some special meaning behind them?

(Or are they just cute? She would actually prefer if that is the reason. If nothing else, the little impala has made her happy - even if just for a moment.)

Ah! It looks like...I think they're called antelope? Or maybe it's related, at least.

I'm not sure why, but I did get something like that as well. I received a tiger.

They are called impalas and are animals native to Africa, one of Earth's continents.

[ Jon holds up his own keychain, frowning mildly. ]

I suppose they were in the mood to hand out gifts again.
beholding_archivist: Do not take. Thanks. (I suppose this was a bad idea)

Herds? Well, yes. Actually they separate into herds of all female and all male individuals.

[ Being an eldritch Google also comes with being able to answer any trivia question regarding animals as well, indeed. ]

As for mine... It's a cow. Not sure what they are trying to imply with it, but cows are considered livestock and are often bred for their meat and milk.

[ Jon hardly considers himself livestock, thank you. ]
beholding_archivist: (Just let me work)

[ video ] ..I just questioned everything I know about English and learned too much about cows... orz

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2022-03-10 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you are not necessarily wrong. But in favor of sparing you the recitation of an entire Encyclopædia Britannica entry about cattle, let me simply say that English lacks a gender-neutral singular form for them, and so cow is used for both female and male individuals and all domestic bovines.

[ No one really wants to hear his Wikipedia rants. ]

Though that aside, random distribution may very well be the case. I have my doubts the Agrii are too familiar with Earth fauna.

[Oh right, alien land. And... people from other worlds?? This is still something difficult for Celty to wrap her figurative head around.]

Oh, it's...a sort of big cat? Here.

[She switches to video briefly, which gives Padmé a glimpse of whom she speaks to, a figure in a black suit with an unusual helmet. Celty holds up the little wooden tiger keychain.]

I can't offer a picture of an antelope, but I'd say they're similar to what you have.

[Cute thing. Looks weird, though. Not like anything Gladio's ever seen before.]

Ain't know what that is, but I got one too. Looks like a really weak form of a Kujata. But the rest of it is a keychain. Do any of us even have keys?

I received a... I've never seen one of these before... whatever it is.

(She holds up the wooden starfish)

Are they dangerous?
provenforce: (I know places we can go)

[personal profile] provenforce 2022-03-12 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I got this one.

[ Rey holds up a capybara, smiling a little as she looks at it. ]

I have no idea what it is, but it looks a little like a happabore.

It is very much a predator. And very large- easily as long as the average height of a person.

I agree. I've watched videos, but I don't think I'd want to run into any myself.

[He holds up his own keychain of a buffalo]

Like this but with way more impressive horns and shoulders.

Ships ain't got keys, which shocked me when I flew one. So not those. Maybe we will get keys?

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2022-03-19 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm inclined to say that parts of it certainly are. Some regions are, of course, riskier to visit than others, but I suppose other planets aren't different in that regard.

[ Though Jon remains aware that science fiction tends to leave the impression every planet only has one inhabited village, he doubts it's the same in other actual galaxies with inhabited planets. ]
beholding_archivist: Do not take. Thanks. (Your complaint is being ignored.)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2022-03-21 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
True. I remember Coruscant vividly. A fascinating planet with so many diverse areas.

[ Some more dangerous than others. ]

My Earth is far from that level of technological development.

What is your home world like?

[It's such a strange question to ask, but then it's become clear that the woman's not from Earth.]

[Yeah, they are cute, and small.]

Kujatas are, yeah. I'm maybe a bit taller than the hoofs of the things. And yeah, keys would be a problem I guess.
