(Her gift amuses her and she holds up the wooden impala, smiling curiously.)

Does anyone know the name of this creature? (How graceful! They look to her as if they are built for speed.) Did everyone receive one of these, by chance? Is there some special meaning behind them?

(Or are they just cute? She would actually prefer if that is the reason. If nothing else, the little impala has made her happy - even if just for a moment.)

Ah! It looks like...I think they're called antelope? Or maybe it's related, at least.

I'm not sure why, but I did get something like that as well. I received a tiger.

They are called impalas and are animals native to Africa, one of Earth's continents.

What does a tiger look like? Or an antelope for that matter? I am assuming like my gift for the latter, though maybe not exactly?

Do they travel in herds? (She leans in curiously to see his keychain.) What animal is that? I take it that most of them are from Earth?

Herds? Well, yes. Actually they separate into herds of all female and all male individuals.

[ Being an eldritch Google also comes with being able to answer any trivia question regarding animals as well, indeed. ]

As for mine... It's a cow. Not sure what they are trying to imply with it, but cows are considered livestock and are often bred for their meat and milk.

[ Jon hardly considers himself livestock, thank you. ]

Isn't cow simply a term for female mammals? (Do Earth...ians? lings? only eat the females of that species? Why?)

I take it we were both given herbivores. Yours is domesticated and mine is wild. Yet we both are...hunted? (How...thoughtful.) I am choosing to presume the choices were random.

Well, you are not necessarily wrong. But in favor of sparing you the recitation of an entire Encyclopædia Britannica entry about cattle, let me simply say that English lacks a gender-neutral singular form for them, and so cow is used for both female and male individuals and all domestic bovines.

Though that aside, random distribution may very well be the case. I have my doubts the Agrii are too familiar with Earth fauna.

I can't offer a picture of an antelope, but I'd say they're similar to what you have.

Ain't know what that is, but I got one too. Looks like a really weak form of a Kujata. But the rest of it is a keychain. Do any of us even have keys?

It is very much a predator. And very large- easily as long as the average height of a person.

There is something beautiful about predatory animals. I wouldn't want to be hunted by a tiger, mind you, but watching one would be a treat.

Ships ain't got keys, which shocked me when I flew one. So not those. Maybe we will get keys?

I'm inclined to say that parts of it certainly are. Some regions are, of course, riskier to visit than others,but I suppose other planets aren't different in that regard.

Not as a surprise anyway - and not without a barrier between you and them. There are creatures on my home world that are like that too.

No, they're not. I have some experience with that at least. If you don't know your way on an unfamiliar terrain, you could meet something exceptionally nasty.

(Science fiction has to focus on one character - or a few at most. Most works can't encompass entire worlds, though some try.)

Keys are easily lost and the ships I've piloted were used by numerous people. It's just easier to not pass around a key.

True. I remember Coruscant vividly. A fascinating planet with so many diverse areas.

Kujatas are, yeah. I'm maybe a bit taller than the hoofs of the things. And yeah, keys would be a problem I guess.
