Power Plant

Billy's been feeling like a bit of a fraud as far as his engineering expertise goes, and so, with Tommy's encouraging words, he's set about trying to put the knowledge to practice. He can be found trying out various experiments, with limited success, and increasing frustration. This sort of stuff just doesn't come naturally to him, even with the knowledge mainlined right into his brain.

On top of his experiments Billy can be found exploring the Power Plant, floating about trying to see if they've missed anything in the areas people typically can't access. It doesn't occur to him that sight might startle someone who's not expecting.

Hotel

Billy can be found about the hotel, busy with various things, cleaning, repairing, flipping through the pictures on his phone. He's trying to make up for lost time. Being sick so soon after their arrival has left him feeling like he's missed out on some bonding opportunities. Tommy's managed to make lots of friends, thrown himself into his work. He thriving here, and Billy wants to feel a little less lost, trying to make conversation where he can, feeling a bit like he was back in highschool, fighting a shyness he hasn't felt in years.

The path to the power plant has been more or less cleared out for a while, and Carol's taking the long way around, today, with a makeshift satchel full of depleted crystal rods slung over one shoulder.

It's not until she's at the main tower that she bothers with flying up, and that's when she realizes she's got company at the upper level.

"Oh - hey," she says brightly, and reaches into her bag for one of the rods, which she offers to Billy. "You wanna help out with this, since you're up here?"

Hux recognized the boy as someone who was one of the many helping to restore the Power Plant. He saw as well that he was having troubles and strode over to him. Even if they all had the delta point there was still a huge learning curve.

"Would you like some assistance," Hux asked.

Oh. Billy's only briefly startled to find someone's joined him, but once he realizes who his features break into an easy smile, belatedly reaching to accept the rod with a nod.

"Yeah, for sure," he answers, seeming suddenly a little bit shy.

Billy straightened up with a bit of a flush. They hadn't formally met, but he's seen Hux around, and he definitely has the air of someone who actually knows what they're doing.

"Heh, uh...yeah?" he admitted, palming at the back of his neck, "I promised my brother I'd help him, and I am increasingly less sure I actually can."

It felt a whole lot like learning to make circuits in highschool. He understood well enough how to do the basics, but altering it in any way to make something new felt entirely beyond him.

"Billy-" he offered belatedly, flashing a small smile and extending a hand to shake.

As soon as they'd piled out of the ships, Bucky had swapped his engineering expertise for piloting. While that means he doesn't quite remember how everything is put together, he'd still like to think he could be helpful, which is why he ends up at the power plant mid-month, wanting to make sure everything still looks like it's running and nothing's been, who knows, chewed through by animals or just corroded into nothing in the time since he was last here.

What he ends up finding is a dark-haired young man floating around, and - well, it's not completely startling, and Bucky's seen Tommy's face around, of course, but it's still a) weird and b) worth introducing himself, he figures. So, as best he can, he makes some noise as he enters to alert the other, calling up, "Find anything useful up there?"

Billy starts a little at the initial interruption, but looking down he offers a shy sort of smile, and shakes his head, lowering back to the ground and pushing a hand back through his hair.

"Mostly spiders. Or...the alien version of spiders which...just look a whole lot like earth spiders," he informs, and Bucky's face is at least of the ones he recognizes in some way from home, but it's clear this one has been through a whole different...thing, 'cause, hey, that's an arm. "...Billy," he adds belatedly, "I don't think we properly met before now?"

"Huh. Is it bad that's kinda reassuring?" Bucky huffs, lips ticking up into a smile - and maybe even looking a little apologetic, since it seems like he still startled the guy.

Bucky nods - and offers a hand (albeit his right) to shake. "I don't think we have. Bucky - although if that's confusing and you wanna call me something else, I get it."

Fortunately(?), the only other Bucky Barnes here he knows doesn't seem to go by that name anymore (which is weird, okay), but he still gets it if it's confusing for people.

"General Hux but Hux will suffice here. It's a pleasure to meet a fellow engineer." Hux replied and shook the extended hand.

"Things will get easier as you become more familiar with the technology here. It's a learning for curve for everyone. What were you trying to work on?"

"Hux," Billy repeated, nodding and trying to commit it to memory, "Lots of military people here. S'kinda interesting."

"Um, well, short term, I was trying to see if I could recharge the crystal rods myself." He waggled his fingers, a flicker of electricity jumping between them to demonstrate what he meant, "But long term, Tommy wants to build a sort of a hydroponics set up that we can put in the ships. So we can grow food even if we get locked in again."

"What, that spiders are universal?" he asks with a teasing smirk, but he hums in consideration and nods. "No, it's not that weird."

He shakes his hand, expression saying the introduction was very much not necessary, but he nods just the same. "I never really got to know my world's Bucky well enough for it to be confusing," he assures. Not personally at least.

"Good," Bucky says - because yeah. Spiders being universal? Is definitely - weirdly - comforting.

He definitely gets the "knowing someone from a totally different universe" thing, but it still seems impolite to just assume people know who you are. "I guess that's a pro for me," he says, shaking his head a little. "I don't know another version of you, but... my universe seems to have fewer superheroes than some people's? Definitely fewer people who can fly. I think I'm jealous."

"Yeah, from what I can gather our universes are pretty different. But if it's like some of the other...other ones, then...we might just not have been born yet." Him and Tommy. Because if Wanda and Vision are together in Bucky's world too then their future seems inevitable, right?

He smirks then, and arches a brow about casually. "...You wanna try?" he offers.

"Could be, I guess," Bucky admits, even if he's not sure. Then again, he's kind of gotten used to being the oldest guy around, so that's not such a tough pill to swallow. "I guess I'll have to keep an eye out."

At the question - offer, really - Bucky definitely raises an eyebrow, caught between looking curious and looking skeptical. "It depends - are you gonna have to lift me up by the armpits?"

That's just undignified.

But maybe still worth it. He'll have to evaluate.

Billy laughs and shakes his head. "Not what I had in mind." He opts for show rather than tell, a blue glow forming first around his hands and then around Bucky's feet, lifting him just an inch or two above the ground. It's a trick he's done with Cap once before, so long as the spell lasts, Bucky should be able to fly same as him, of his own volition.

"It's kind of hard to explain, but it comes pretty natural once you get used to it."
